We are recruiting a SQL Server Database Administrator who will be part of our Database Services Team.  This team is responsible for the administration, maintenance, monitoring, and reporting of all databases maintained by Cambridge University Press and Assessment.

What will you do as a SQL Server Database Administrator?

The main duties are to provide the full range of Database Administrator services in a complex database environment and deliver excellent support for SQL Server. Knowledge in Oracle, PostgreSQL and MySQL databases both on premise and in AWS EC2 or RDS instances is desirable.

• Database Administration such as Installation, Patching, Refresh, Backup and Recovery, Upgrade, Capacity Planning, Monitoring and Performance/SQL Tuning, Database User & Security Management
• Incident, Service Request, Problem and Change Management
• Engage/Lead on multi team efforts related to deployments, projects, and other application support
• Provide input into the improvement of services and processes and the mitigation of risks
• Adoption of other database technology skills within the local team; Adhere to IT Service Management (ITSM) and Service Level Agreement (SLA) standards

What makes you the ideal candidate for this role?

We are looking for someone experienced on Database Administration and have an excellent working knowledge with a proven track record in incident and service request management, solving complex issues and will be able to advocate and enforce best practices, leading to Continuous Improvement of services and processes relating to database operations.

Experience in one or more of the following areas is desirable:

• Experienced in administrating SQL Server Versions 2014, 2016, 2017, 2019,2022
• Strong database and SQL performance tuning skills; Adept in database backup and recovery and in capacity planning
• Familiarity with Windows and Linux; Experience in working on cloud-based infrastructure; Working knowledge on automation tools – e.g. ActiveBatch
• Experienced in administrating other database technologies like Oracle (Desirable)
• AWS Experience of managing database in one or more of the follows: EC2, RDS SQL Server, PostgreSQL Aurora, RDS MySQL (Desirable)
