Mold Designer

• A. Mold Design and Modeling

• Design complete 3D CAD models and detailed 2D engineering drawings for new plastic injection molds, including mold bases, cores, cavities, inserts, lifters, sliders, and ejection systems.

• Determine and design the optimal parting line (split core) to facilitate smooth molding and demolding.
• Design and optimize the runner system (hot and cold runner), gating strategy, and cooling channels to ensure material flow, minimize defects, and achieve the required cycle time.
• Apply appropriate shrinkage rates for the specified plastic resin to ensure the final molded part meets dimensional specifications.
• Select suitable mold materials (e.g., tool steel) and standard mold components.

B. Analysis and Optimization

• Perform Design for Manufacturability (DFM) analysis on customer product models, identifying potential issues like insufficient draft, uneven wall thickness, sink marks, or warping.
• Conduct or utilize Mold Flow Analysis (CAE) to simulate plastic filling, cooling, and warpage, making design adjustments as necessary.
• Ensure all designs adhere to required Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) specifications and quality standards.
• Lead mold design reviews with the tooling team, engineering, and customers to finalize the design before release to manufacturing.

C. Documentation and Support

• Generate accurate Bill of Materials (BOMs) for all mold components.
• Prepare mold specifications, design checklists, and assembly instructions.
• Provide technical support to the tool room during mold fabrication and assembly, addressing any design-related issues promptly.
• Collaborate with the Process Engineering team during mold sampling and production trials to troubleshoot molding issues and optimize mold functionality.
• Manage and control revisions for all mold designs and related documentation.
