JOB SUMMARY
- Provides safe and quality care and assistance to cancer patients and their care providers seeking for the following services, but not limited to:
- Consultations
- Multidisciplinary Team Conferences
- Care Coordination
- Manages the day-to-day clinical operations of the unit
- Observes excellent processes in rendering services that promote patient satisfaction, build patient loyalty and a network of clients, following established policies, standards and guidelines.
PROFESSIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Practices in accordance with the Legal Principles and Code of Ethics in making personal and professional judgments.
- Adheres to ethico-legal considerations in the provision of safe, quality, and professional nursing care.
- Applies ethical reasoning and decision-making process to address situations of ethical distress and moral dilemma.
- Adheres to established norms of conduct based on the Philippine Nursing Law and other legal regulatory and institutional requirements relevant to safe nursing practice.
- Protects clients' rights based on "Patient's Bill of Rights and Obligations.
- Implements strategies or policies related to informed consent as it applies in multiple contexts in cancer care.
OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Patient Management
- Collects and analyzes patients' personal data and health profile through the use of an electronic medical record implemented in the institution.
- Identifies and assesses nursing problems – physical, emotional, psychosocial, and spiritual.
- Plans, implements, and evaluates delivery of safe quality nursing care according to priorities.
- Provides health education to cancer patients and their care providers
- Explains and clarifies whenever necessary to the patient's family/care providers their role in the promotion of therapy and rehabilitation.
- Provides appropriate instructions regarding tests and procedures.
- Interprets and carries out doctor's orders according to nursing standards.
- Technical Skills
- Safely administers chemotherapy and immunotherapy drugs as prescribed by the physician.
- Analyzes and carries out doctor's orders in conformity with policies and legal limitations.
- Assists the medical team in the performance of procedures and tests.
- Uses sound judgment in the implementation of nursing procedures and treatment/care plans
- Performs and assists the cancer patient in the implementation of nursing procedures and techniques
- Vital signs taking, monitoring, and recording
- Safe medication administration and management
- Treatment Administration
- Specimen collection
- Patient Hygiene
- Nutrition
- Elimination
- Performs the following nursing and medical procedures safely and accurately
- Initiation and maintenance of intravenous infusion systems
- Changing and discontinuation of intravenous infusion systems
- Blood product administration
- Administration of drugs through intravenous access- IV push/bolus and Piggy back/secondary infusion
- Operates, facilitates, and troubleshoots use of the following machines and/or equipment:
- Monitoring devices such as but not limited to: cardiac monitor, pulse oximeters, and tympanic thermometer
- Emergency cart and defibrillator
- Infusion pumps
- ECG machine
- Floor stocks
COLLABORATION
- Ensures proper functioning, maintenance and availability of supplies, equipment and facilities necessary for patient care.
- Creates and maintains therapeutic environment by providing privacy, comfort and safety.
- Participates in cost containing measures.
- Promotes good interpersonal relationship among co-workers.
- Participates in the formulation, revision, or modification of procedures and techniques to improve cancer nursing practice.
- Communicates and acts as liaison between patient, physician and other members of the healthcare team.
- RECORDS MANAGEMENT
- Updates the patient's medical record in the hospital information system
- Provides Reception/Accounting records of patient treatment/ procedure necessary for insurance claims/liquidation.
- Practices standard and accurate recording and reporting; and ensuring that all patients' medical records are complete and properly accounted for.
- Ensures that inventory of supplies and linen are updated regularly.
- Ensures that "no losses" are incurred in the unit.
- REPORTING
- Evaluates care rendered and reports pertinent observation findings to members of the healthcare team
- Ensures that superiors are informed regarding problems/ issues in patient care within the unit.
- Reports to the Head nurse any damage/losses incurred in the unit.
- Reports to the Head nurse all defects/problems of machines/ equipment and ensures regular maintenance of these.
PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT
- Participates actively in the in-service education programs of the hospital
- Promotion of research for the improvement of nursing care of patients and participates in other related programs of the center.
- Participates in nursing conferences.
- Presents/ assists in nursing care case presentations.
- Attends case presentation/ lectures/ seminars
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Assists when designated newly hired nurses in the care of patients.
- Acts as nurse in-charge when delegated.
- Ensures functionality, maintenance and availability of supplies, equipment and facilities necessary for patient care.
- Handles equipment carefully.
- Maintains a safe environment for the patients and their families/care providers.
- Performs other duties that may be assigned to or required of the job.
POLICY COMPLIANCE
- Adheres to unit policies, work instructions, and code of discipline.
- Maintains professionalism and accountability at all times.
- Complies with institutional attendance guidelines regarding leave notification and promptness in reporting for duty.
- Participates in cost cutting measures.
TRAINING AND ONBOARDING
- Attendance and compliance to the following:
- HR Led Training Programs
- Hospital Infection Control and Prevention Management Training
- Customer Service Training
- Basic and Advanced Life Support Training
- Infusion Nursing Program
- Central Venous Access Devices (CVAD) Training
- Hospital Information System (Arcus Air) Training
- Medication Management Training
- Safe Handling of Hazardous Drugs Training
- Essentials of Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy
- OTHERS
- Other ad hoc tasks and projects that may be assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing Graduate
- Passed the Nursing Licensure Examination
- Member of Philippine Nurses Association
- Member of Philippine Oncology Nurses Association (PONA)
Preferred:
- IVT Trained
- CVAD/IVAD Trained
- Has attended the Chemotherapy Course for Nurses by the Philippine Oncology Nurses Association (PONA)
Work Experiences
- With at least 6 to 12 months related work experience in a cancer unit/center
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: Php28, Php30,000.00 per month
