A Lineman is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment.

Additionally, a lineman digs trenches for the installation of underground lines, install meters, climb poles to repair overhead lines and inspect power lines for possible repair or replacement. A lineman will work with a team of electricians to install, repair, or replace power lines.

Lineman responsibilities include inspecting power lines or repairing power lines as needed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Maintain knowledge of and always implement safety procedures

  • Safely and accurately prepares work sites with warning signs and secures areas

  • Must have a driver's license and able to operate manlift trucks for the maintenance and repair of overhead powerlines

  • Locate underground electric cable faults for repair

  • Read and interpret wiring diagrams

  • Install primary and secondary overhead and underground electrical systems

  • Conduct work outdoors in various types of weather

  • Knowledgeable in installation of CT Rated and non-CT Rated electricity meters in buildings

  • Perform inspections to prevent power outages by replacing or repairing components

  • Clear away tree branches or other hazards near live power installations

  • Troubleshoot cause of power outages and problems with electrical lines and wires

  • Attend to callouts and perform repairs in an efficient and timely manner

  • Willing to work extended time whenever necessary

  • Report progress, complications, concerns, and delays to the supervisor

  • Can perform special task assigned by immediate superior

ESSENTIAL SKILLS

  • Installing and maintaining electrical power lines, equipment, and devices

  • Diagnosing electrical overhead and underground system malfunctions and failures

  • Ability to climb utility poles and experience operating and performing work in manlift and/or other types of lifts

REQUIREMENTS

  • At least high school graduate

  • Preferably completed a Technical/Vocational course in Electrical Technology, Practical Electricity or any allied courses

  • TESDA Certified Electrical Power Lineman is an advantage, but not required

  • Must have knowledge, skills, and experience (1-3 years preferred) in electrical power lines (distribution system) – overhead and underground
