The Business Manager is the operational heartbeat of the company—owning execution, ensuring efficiency, and driving client and financial outcomes across all functions.

We're a boutique technology consulting firm—about 30 people strong—helping clients solve complex problems through digital strategy, design, and delivery. We're small enough to stay nimble, but big enough to make a real impact. We work fast, think commercially, and care deeply about outcomes.

This role is the operational engine of the business—keeping the firm running smoothly, profitably, and aligned to client success.

Role Purpose

The Business Manager ensures the smooth day-to-day operations of the business in a remote environment. This role demands a strategic executor—someone who can balance structure with speed, maintain financial discipline, and translate vision into performance.

You'll be the operational anchor for the leadership team, translating commercial goals into action plans, ensuring client projects run profitably, and holding the team accountable to clear, measurable KPIs.

Key ResponsibilitiesOperational Leadership

  • Oversee all business operations, ensuring alignment across project delivery, finance, people, and client functions.
  • Build and refine operational systems that enable scale while keeping the company lean and adaptive.
  • Implement process automation and tooling for reporting, project tracking, and client engagement.
  • Manage compliance, contracts, and vendor relationships.

Performance and People

  • Define and monitor KPIs across teams, tying individual performance to client and financial outcomes.
  • Establish a cadence for performance reviews, project retros, and business health reporting.
  • Drive accountability through data—ensuring productivity, utilization, and profitability are visible and tracked.
  • Foster a high-performance remote culture built on ownership, responsiveness, and transparency.

Client Management

  • Act as a senior point of contact for key client accounts—driving satisfaction, delivery excellence, and commercial growth.
  • Translate client objectives into clear deliverables for internal teams, ensuring projects meet scope, timeline, and margin targets.
  • Identify opportunities to expand client relationships through strategic engagement and cross-selling.

Financial Management

  • Partner with leadership to develop and manage budgets, forecasts, and P&L reports.
  • Maintain a lean cost structure while enabling sustainable growth.
  • Own financial operations: billing, invoicing, and profitability tracking at project and portfolio levels.

Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years' experience in operations, business management, or consulting leadership—ideally within a professional services or tech environment.
  • Proven ability to manage distributed teams and operations in a remote-first business.
  • Strong commercial acumen with experience managing P&L, budgets, and KPIs.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills—comfortable leading client conversations.
  • Systems-driven thinker: experienced with digital operations tools (HubSpot, Asana, Notion, Xero, etc.).
  • Highly autonomous, structured, and outcomes-focused.
