SAP Basis – Operations Manager

An SAP Basis Operations Manager oversees the daily administration, maintenance, and performance of SAP systems, which includes managing a team of administrators, ensuring system security and availability, and leading projects like upgrades and patches. Key responsibilities involve system monitoring, performing backups and disaster recovery planning, troubleshooting issues, and ensuring compliance with best practices and standards. This role requires a blend of technical SAP Basis expertise and strong leadership skills to manage the overall health of the SAP landscape.

Key responsibilities

• System administration:
  Oversee the installation, configuration, and maintenance of SAP systems (S/4HANA, ECC, Solution Manager).
• Performance and optimization:
  Monitor system performance, tune databases and application servers, and implement improvements to ensure efficiency.
• Maintenance and upgrades:
  Manage and execute regular maintenance tasks, such as applying patches, kernel upgrades, and system updates.
• Team leadership:
  Lead, mentor, and provide technical support (Level 2 and 3) to a team of SAP Basis administrators.
• Security and compliance:
  Ensure system security by managing user access and implementing security policies and verify that systems comply with organizational standards and industry best practices.
• Backup and disaster recovery:
  Develop, implement, and test backup and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity and system availability.
• Troubleshooting:
  Provide technical support and troubleshoot issues to resolve problems and minimize downtime.
• Project management:
  Collaborate with functional and technical teams to support projects, such as system upgrades, migrations, and new module implementations.
• Documentation:
  Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for system configurations, standard operating procedures, and troubleshooting steps.

Required skills and qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information technology, Computer Science, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
• Extensive experience in SAP Basis administration.
• Strong knowledge of SAP architecture, components, and databases.
• Experience with operating systems like Windows, Linux, or UNIX.
• Proficiency in system performance tuning, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Experience with system copies, transport, and disaster recovery.
• Leadership and team management skills.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills.
