Key ResponsibilitiesThe duties of an F&B Dispatcher vary depending on whether the role is for a traditional restaurant, a cloud kitchen/delivery service, or a large event caterer, but typically include:

  • Order Management: Receiving order tickets (POS printouts), organizing them, and relaying the specifications and priorities (e.g., special requests, dietary restrictions) to the kitchen staff.
  • Quality Control: Verifying the accuracy, presentation, temperature, and garnishing of all dishes before they leave the kitchen to ensure they meet the restaurant's standards.
  • Coordination & Communication: Serving as the central communication point between kitchen staff, servers (front-of-house), and/or delivery drivers to manage the flow of orders and address any delays or issues immediately.
  • Dispatching/Expediting: Directing servers to pick up ready orders for dining guests, or coordinating and assigning delivery drivers based on location, time, and availability.
  • Packaging & Logistics: Ensuring proper packaging for takeout or delivery orders and coordinating transportation logistics.
  • Area Management: Maintaining a clean, organized, and sanitary dispatch area, including ensuring proper temperature control for food items.
  • Record Keeping: Keeping accurate records of customer requests, completed orders, and any issues that arise during the service process.

Required Skills and QualificationsA successful F&B Dispatcher needs strong organizational and interpersonal skills, along with the ability to perform under pressure.

  • Experience: Often requires at least one year of experience in a related food service or customer service environment.

  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills to resolve issues quickly.
  • High attention to detail to ensure order accuracy and quality.
  • Familiarity with POS systems, order management software, and potentially basic computer applications.

  • Education: Typically requires a high school diploma or equivalent, with on-the-job training being common. A food safety certification may also be required depending on local regulations (e.g., ServSafe).
