Job Description Summary

The Fire Watcher is responsible for monitoring areas where hot work (welding, cutting, grinding, etc.) is being performed and prevent fire outbreaks by identifying hazards and taking preventive measures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Continuously monitor hot work areas for signs of fire during and after operations.
  • Ensure that fire extinguishers and fire suppression equipment are available and functional.
  • Remove combustible materials from the work area or ensure they are protected with fire-resistant blankets or shield.
  • Immediately extinguish small fires or alert emergency services in case of a larger incident.
  • Maintain watch for at least 30 minutes after hot work is completed (or as per policy).
  • Complete fire watch logs and documentation.
  • Report unsafe practices and support the enforcement of fire safety protocols.
  • Participate in safety drills and training sessions.

Qualifications

  • Valid Fire Watch Training / Hot Work Permit Training (as required by local regulations).
  • Familiarity with fire extinguisher types and use.
  • Awareness of workplace safety procedures and hazard recognition.
  • Ability to remain alert and vigilant for extended periods.
  • Physically able to access all areas of the work site.
  • Good communication and observation skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and act quickly in emergencies.
  • Physically fit and capable of moving quicky in emergency scenarios.

Work Environment

  • Full-time based on-site based on a construction or project site (may involve fieldwork exposure).
  • May require PPE (Personal Protective Equipment) when accessing active site areas.
  • Standard workweek (Monday to Saturday) but may require working overtime or night shifts based on project requirements and deadlines.
