YOUR ROLE

A Level 1 Monitoring Engineer is an entry-level IT professional responsible for continuously monitoring systems, networks, and applications to ensure smooth and uninterrupted operations. The role focuses on identifying alerts, responding to basic incidents, and escalating issues to higher-level engineers when necessary.

Level 1 Monitoring Engineers play a critical role in maintaining system availability by following standard operating procedures, documenting incidents, and providing first-line support. This position is ideal for individuals starting their career in IT operations, offering hands-on experience with monitoring tools, troubleshooting fundamentals, and real-time system management.

WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO?

  • Monitoring system, network, and application alerts
  • Identifying and logging incidents
  • Performing basic troubleshooting
  • Escalating issues to Level 2 or specialized teams
  • Maintaining accurate documentation and reports Skills & Qualifications

WHAT ARE WE LOOKING FOR?

  • Bachelor's degree holder
  • Understanding of computer systems, servers, and operating systems
  • Basic knowledge of Windows and/or Linux environments
  • Knowledge of TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and basic networking concepts
  • Ability to understand network alerts and connectivity issues
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools such as: Nagios, Zabbix, SolarWinds, and Prometheus / Grafana (basic level)
  • Ability to interpret alerts, thresholds, and dashboards
  • Understanding of incident, problem, and change management concepts
  • Experience or awareness of ticketing systems (ServiceNow, Jira, Remedy, etc.)
  • Ability to perform basic troubleshooting for system and application issues
  • Identify common errors and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Ability to document incidents, actions taken, and resolutions clearly
  • Basic reporting skills using logs and monitoring data
  • Willingness to work in 24/7 shift environments
  • Understanding of SLA, uptime, and operational support requirements
  • IT certifications such as CompTIA A+, ITIL Foundation (preferred)
  • Experience in a service desk or helpdesk environment is an advantage
