Position Summary:

We are seeking a qualified and detail-oriented Accountant to support the financial operations. Reporting directly to the Commercial Manager, this role will be responsible for a wide range of financial accounting functions. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring accurate and timely financial reporting, compliance with taxation obligations, safeguarding fixed assets, and meeting external audit obligations.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Financial Accounting & Reporting

  • Assist in the preparation and completion of the month-end close processes, ensuring all journals and adjustments are accurately posted and within deadlines.
  • Prepare and maintain general ledger reconciliations.
  • Compile and submit weekly and monthly financial and operational reports as required by the Commercial Manager.

2. Taxation & Regulatory Compliance

  • Provide inputs and supporting documentation to facilitate the preparation of indirect and income tax returns in compliance with Australian tax legislation.
  • Prepare and lodge monthly mining royalty returns in accordance with NSW government requirements.

3. Asset Management

  • Maintain and reconcile the Fixed Asset Register (FAR), ensuring accuracy of capitalization, depreciation, and asset disposals.
  • Assist with annual asset verification and review processes.
  • Regularly review general ledger transactions to ensure correct classification (i.e. OPEX vs CAPEX)
  • Assist with periodic inventory stocktakes ensuring accurate recording of results and appropriate analysis and explanation of variances.
  • Periodically review inventory records to identify slow moving and obsolescent items and perform analysis to monitor and recommend changes to min/max levels.

4. External Audit Support

  • Coordinate and prepare documentation required for external audits.
  • Respond to audit queries in a timely and professional manner.

5. Business Support & Continuous Improvement

  • Assist the Commercial Manager in working across the business to monitor and control costs to budget
  • Collaborate closely with the on-site teams to understand financial data and support business decision-making.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline reporting and accounting processes for efficiency and accuracy.

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, or a related field.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification.
  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in financial accounting, preferably in the mining, or heavy industry sector (Capital Industry).
  • Strong understanding of Australian accounting standards and regulatory requirements is highly desirable.
