Plant Operator

Job Summary

The Plant Operator is responsible for ensuring the continuous, efficient, and safe operation of the power plant. This includes monitoring and controlling equipment performance, maintaining stable generation output, coordinating with the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP), and carrying out preventive maintenance to ensure optimal plant performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities Plant Operations

• Operate and monitor all plant systems to maintain continuous operations at maximum capacity.
• Maintain accurate and trustworthy time, production, and performance records.
• Communicate with NGCP-ACC for grid operation coordination, including dispatch output, voltage, and frequency stability.
• Coordinate with ACC during unit synchronization, shutdowns, and power feedback during disturbances or interruptions.
• Implement and improve the plant's Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to ensure efficiency, availability, and safety.
• Conduct regular inspections to ensure safe working conditions and compliance with operational safety standards.
• Stay alert to any unusual noises, vibrations, or abnormal mechanical and electrical conditions, and take corrective action as needed.
• Report directly to the Plant Manager for any abnormal conditions or urgent operational issues; initiate emergency shutdowns when required.
• Serve as Officer-in-Charge of plant operations during the absence of the Plant Manager, especially during night shifts.

Plant Maintenance

• Perform regular preventive maintenance and ensure that all plant machinery, equipment, and instrumentation are in good working condition.
• Develop and implement effective repair, maintenance, and troubleshooting procedures to minimize downtime.
• Maintain proper segregation and storage of materials, tools, and personal belongings to ensure an organized and safe work environment.
• Monitor the availability of tools, materials, and spare parts, ensuring readiness for maintenance and emergency needs.
• Promote continuous improvement of maintenance procedures and adherence to safety measures to prevent premature or costly breakdowns.
• Maintain cleanliness and orderliness of the workplace at all times.

Safety and Compliance

• Follow all company safety policies, wear the prescribed uniform and protective equipment at all times, and ensure compliance with plant safety regulations.
• Actively participate in safety inspections and emergency response procedures.
• Maintain a high level of environmental and operational awareness to prevent unsafe conditions.

Other Duties

• Assist in training and mentoring junior staff or operators as required.
• Perform other related duties as may be assigned by the Plant Manager or management.

Qualifications

• Graduate of Mechanical, Electrical, or Electronics Engineering or related technical course (PRC License is an advantage).
• At least 2–5 years of experience in power plant operations or maintenance (hydro, thermal, or similar facilities).
• Strong understanding of electrical and mechanical systems used in plant operations.
• Excellent analytical, communication, and decision-making skills.
• Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergency situations.
• Willing to work on shifting schedules, including weekends and holidays.
