Data Scientist

A. Purpose and Scope:

The Data Scientist will be a core member of the Data and Insights team, responsible for leveraging company data to develop robust analytical models that drive strategic business decisions. This role involves translating complex data sets into actionable insights and supporting key stakeholders across the organization. The ideal candidate will apply their strong mathematical and statistical background to uncover opportunities for growth, efficiency, and innovation within the company.

B. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

· Data Preparation and Exploration: Collect, clean, and analyze large datasets from various internal and external sources. You'll spend a significant amount of time on data manipulation and exploration to identify initial patterns and data quality issues.

· Model Development and Implementation: Design, develop, and maintain analytical models and algorithms to forecast trends, assess performance, and optimize business processes. This includes building predictive models and using statistical techniques to address specific business questions.

· Statistical Analysis: Conduct rigorous statistical analysis to identify key patterns, correlations, and causal relationships within the data. You'll apply your knowledge of statistical analysis to uncover opportunities for growth and efficiency.

· Reporting and Visualization: Assist in the development and automation of reports and dashboards to visualize data and communicate findings to stakeholders in a clear, concise manner. You'll need to translate complex findings into presentations and reports for non-technical audiences.

· Collaboration and Requirements Gathering: Collaborate with business units to understand their challenges, define analytical requirements, and provide data-driven recommendations. You'll work closely with teams to ensure your models and insights directly influence business strategy and goal attainment.

· Model Validation and Maintenance: Validate model performance and make necessary adjustments to ensure accuracy and relevance. You'll be responsible for the ongoing maintenance of your models to ensure they remain effective.

· Continuous Learning: Stay up-to-date with industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in the field of business analytics. This role requires a commitment to continuous learning to keep your skills sharp

C. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Knowledge: A bachelor's or master's degree in mathematics, Statistics, Economics, or a related discipline. A strong theoretical and practical understanding of statistical analysis, data modeling, and predictive analytics.

Skills:

· Proficiency in Python, including libraries like NumPy, Pandas, Scikit-learn, and Matplotlib for data manipulation, statistical analysis, and machine learning model development.

· Expertise in SQL for complex querying, data extraction, and database management. Experience with different database systems (e.g., SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL) would be a valuable addition.

· Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, Power BI, or other platforms such as Looker or QlikView for creating interactive dashboards and reports.

· A strong theoretical and practical understanding of statistical analysis, data modeling, and predictive analytics. This includes knowledge of regression analysis, time-series forecasting, clustering, and classification techniques.

· Excellent written and verbal communication skills for translating complex analytical findings into clear, impactful presentations and reports for non-technical audiences.

· Strong critical thinking and analytical skills to identify key patterns, correlations, and causal relationships in data, and to provide data-driven recommendations

Abilities:

· Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously in a fast-paced environment.

· A demonstrated ability to derive meaningful, actionable insights from raw data.

· Capacity to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams and influence decision-making.

· A proven track record of 2-4 years in a data-centric role.
