Biomedical Technician

The Biomedical Technician will play a critical role in ensuring that all medical equipment at the Cebu COE is safe, functional, and aligned with international standards. This position supports surgical missions, training, and daily clinical operations by overseeing the installation, maintenance, calibration, and compliance of biomedical devices.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment Management

• Install, configure, and test medical devices used in surgery, anesthesia, monitoring, sterilization, and other hospital systems.
• Perform preventive and corrective maintenance in line with manufacturer specifications, hospital policies, and Operation Smile's Global Medical Standards.
• Calibrate and validate equipment regularly to ensure accuracy, reliability, and patient safety.

Technical Support & Troubleshooting

• Diagnose and repair equipment issues (electrical, mechanical, software, or networking-related).
• Provide on-site technical support during surgical programs and routine clinical services.
• Support integration of medical devices with IT systems, EMR, and monitoring networks.

Training & User Support

• Train hospital staff, volunteers, and residents on safe and proper use of biomedical equipment.
• Develop quick-reference guides and conduct refresher sessions on equipment care and basic troubleshooting.

Compliance & Documentation

• Maintain up-to-date service logs, calibration certificates, and repair histories.
• Ensure compliance with Department of Health (DOH), Food and Drug Administration (FDA), and other local regulations, alongside Operation Smile international safety standards.
• Assist in audits, inspections, and reporting for OSP, OSI, and partner institutions.

Partnership & Coordination

• Coordinate with hospital engineering/biomed departments to ensure seamless equipment management.
• Work closely with suppliers, service providers, and Operation Smile's global biomedical engineering network for repairs, spare parts, and upgrades.
• Support the Medical Director and Center Senior Manager in long-term equipment planning and lifecycle management.

Qualifications

• TESDA NC II certification in Biomedical Equipment Servicing, Electronics Servicing, or a related technical field (required).
• At least 2–3 years of relevant experience in biomedical equipment maintenance, preferably in surgical or hospital settings.
• Strong knowledge of anesthesia machines, patient monitors, sterilizers/autoclaves, suction systems, dental chairs, and surgical instruments.
• Familiarity with DOH, FDA, ISO, and international standards for biomedical equipment.
• Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to work independently under pressure.
• Strong documentation, reporting, and communication skills.
• A bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering, Electronics, or a related technical field is an advantage but not required.
