Job Summary
An
R&D Process Engineer
is responsible for optimizing and standardizing the manufacturing process for new and existing products. This role ensures that products developed in the lab can be efficiently and cost-effectively scaled up for production while maintaining high quality. The engineer acts as a bridge between the R&D lab and the manufacturing floor, troubleshooting issues and ensuring a smooth technology transfer process.

Key Responsibilities
Process Optimization & Quality Assurance

• Ensure the consistent production of high-quality products by optimizing compounding processes.
• Implement efficient and cost-effective methods to minimize waste and maximize output in the manufacturing facility.

Troubleshooting & Problem-Solving

• Investigate and resolve issues with out-of-specification (OOS) products that are produced in the manufacturing facility.
• Analyze root causes of production inconsistencies and implement corrective actions. Quality Control Assistance

Technology Transfer

• Lead the technology transfer process, scaling up formulations and procedures from a laboratory batch to a full production batch.
• Collaborate with R&D and production teams to ensure that the production process accurately reflects the lab-developed formula.

Data Collection & Analysis

• Assist the R&D supervisor by collecting critical data during the scale-up process.
• Identify and document bottlenecks and other issues encountered by compounding staff to improve future processes.

Continuous Improvement

• Stay updated on new technologies and techniques to improve compounding processes and product quality.
• Work on other relevant tasks to support product development and manufacturing goals.

Qualification And Requirements
EDUCATION

• Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.

Experience

• 3+ years of experience in a Transfer Technology R&D environment, with a focus on process optimization, scale-up, and technology transfer. Experience in the cosmetic or consumer goods industry is highly desirable.

Skills & Competencies

• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mass transfer.
• Proficiency in process simulation software and statistical analysis tools (e.g., Minitab, JMP, or Excel).
• Experience with process validation, quality control, and troubleshooting in a production setting.
• Familiarity with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) and safety protocols.

Technical Skills

• Strong knowledge of engineering principles, including thermodynamics, fluid dynamics, and mass transfer.

*WORK ENVIRONMENT*

• Hybrid Role: The R&D Process Engineer's work environment is a blend of three key settings: the laboratory, manufacturing floor and an office setting. A significant amount of time is spent in the laboratory and production facility. In the manufacturing floor, it involves observing processes, troubleshooting issues, and collaborating with production staff. In the laboratory, time spent involves the transition of a laboratory batch to production scale. The R&D Process engineer should also have vast knowledge on ingredient types, specifically on rheology modifiers, thickeners, emulsifiers and other related chemical reactions. The rest of the time is spent in an office, analyzing data, preparing reports, and attending meetings.
• Collaboration with Diverse Teams: This role acts as a critical link between various departments, including manufacturing, quality assurance, and supply chain. The engineer must be an excellent communicator and team player to facilitate smooth technology transfers and process improvements.
• Fast-Paced & Problem-Solving Oriented: The job is often fast-paced and requires a proactive approach to problem-solving. The engineer must be ready to respond to unexpected production issues and work under pressure to find and implement solutions quickly to minimize downtime.
