Job Summary

The Senior Tax Reviewer will lead the technical review and quality control of business tax returns, including Partnerships (1065), S Corporations (1120-S), C Corporations (1120), Trusts & Estates (1041), and Tax-Exempt Organizations This role ensures technical accuracy, compliance with current tax law, and opportunities for planning are consistently identified.

You'll work directly with partners, manage staff preparers, and help shape firm processes. This is a high-impact, leadership-track position ideal for someone seeking long-term growth.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Review complex federal and state income tax returns for:
  • Partnerships, LLCs
  • S Corporations and C Corporations
  • Trusts and Estates
  • Nonprofit Organizations (990s)
  • Ensure technical accuracy, completeness, and compliance with IRS and state tax laws, primarily California.
  • Mentor, train, and provide review notes for junior and mid-level tax staff.
  • Identify and communicate tax planning opportunities to partners and clients.
  • Assist with year-end tax projections and advisory deliverables as needed.
  • Maintain client relationships with professionalism and proactive communication.
  • Stay up to date with tax law changes and train staff accordingly.
  • Support implementation of internal review procedures and quality controls.
  • Use tax software such as [e.g., UltraTax, Lacerte, ProConnect, CCH Axcess] and workflow tools like [e.g., Karbon, Jetpack, Canopy].
Minimum Qualifications: Qualifications:
  • CPA or EA required.
  • 7+ years of public accounting experience, with a focus on business entity returns.
  • Deep working knowledge of pass-through taxation, basis, capital accounts, K-1 allocations, and entity structuring.
  • Familiarity with multistate returns and apportionment.
  • Trust and estate tax experience highly preferred.
  • Detail-oriented with strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing junior staff preferred.
  • Comfortable in a paperless, tech-enabled environment.
