Job Summary
We are seeking a SharePoint & Microsoft 365 Migration Specialist to support the execution of large-scale SharePoint Online migrations and tenant consolidations. You'll set up new SharePoint sites with the right permissions, move content in staged waves (pre-stage + cutover), and follow a repeatable playbook developed with the team. The ideal hire has hands-on experience delivering Microsoft 365 migrations and can contribute as both a doer and a knowledgeable partner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Execute migrations from on-prem file servers and legacy repositories into SharePoint Online using a pre-stage + cutover approach; validate and reconcile content after cutover.
- Support tenant-to-tenant consolidations (e.g., acquisitions): migrate SharePoint sites/libraries, Teams content, and Exchange Online mailboxes while minimizing user disruption.
- Set up SharePoint sites & permissions: create new sites and libraries; design and review security permissions to ensure the right level of access and avoid oversharing.
- Use migration tooling: operate ShareGate to map source folders/sites to destinations, execute moves, monitor errors, and generate logs.
- Document processes: capture steps and lessons learned in playbooks or SOPs so future migrations can be repeated consistently.
- Collaborate with IT and business leads on scope, timelines, approvals, and cutover plans; provide clear updates throughout migrations.
- Validate migrations: check migrated content and permissions, and confirm accuracy with business users before finalizing.
Required Skills and Abilities:
- Hands-on SharePoint Online and Microsoft 365 migration experience (delivered at least one migration project end-to-end).
- Strong understanding of SharePoint permissions and security; able to configure new sites with appropriate access controls.
- Practical experience with migration tools (ShareGate preferred; other tools acceptable with transferable skills).
- Experience running phased migrations (pilot → scale), including pre-stage/cutover and validation.
- Ability to document processes (playbooks, SOPs) during execution.
- Clear communication with technical and non-technical users.
- Able to work Canada (MDT) hours during the training and onboarding period (with potential for flexible schedule afterward, dependent on client preferences).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in tenant-to-tenant migrations (SharePoint/OneDrive, Teams, Exchange Online).
- Exposure to Microsoft Purview (sensitivity labels) for managing permissions and compliance.
- Familiarity with scripting (e.g., PowerShell) for repeatable setup and adjustments.
- Background in supporting IT integrations during mergers or acquisitions.
