Pre-Operative Care:

  • Verify patient identity, surgical consent, and preoperative checklist prior to procedure.
  • Assess patient condition, vital signs, allergies, and readiness for surgery.
  • Prepare the operating room—ensuring all instruments, equipment, and supplies are complete, sterile, and functional.
  • Position the patient properly and ensure comfort and safety.
  • Coordinate with the attending surgeon, anesthesiologist (if applicable), and other healthcare personnel.

Intra-Operative Care:

  • Act as scrub nurse—prepare and handle surgical instruments and maintain sterility throughout the procedure.
  • Act as circulating nurse—assist with patient monitoring, instrument count, and documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with infection prevention and aseptic techniques.
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon and assist promptly and efficiently.
  • Document all intraoperative details including medications, materials used, and time logs.

Post-Operative Care:

  • Monitor patient's vital signs and level of consciousness in the recovery area.
  • Provide immediate post-operative care and patient education regarding wound care and medications.
  • Assist in discharging patients once cleared by the physician.
  • Ensure proper disposal of used materials and cleaning of the operating room for the next procedure.

General Duties:

  • Maintain inventory of surgical instruments, medications, and supplies.
  • Ensure proper sterilization, storage, and maintenance of OR equipment.
  • Participate in clinic quality assurance and safety programs.
  • Adhere to all nursing protocols, infection control standards, and clinic policies.
  • Perform other related tasks as may be assigned by the Nurse Supervisor or Clinic Manager.
