POSITION TITLE: REPORTER
REPORTS TO: News Director
JOB SUMMARY:
Collect and analyze information of interest, including crime, government and breaking news, and broadcast it to the public. Gather information, write coverage, conduct interviews, report on-air and edit broadcasts.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
o Develops story ideas, perform research, interview people, write their stories and broadcast reports.
o Respond to breaking news stories
o Report on entertainment, sports or news events.
o Manages social media presence for news gathering, news distribution and branding purposes.
o Produces news as assigned by News Director.
o Collect information on assigned topics to report accurate and timely news.
o Generate new and interesting news stories to cover and look for unique, relevant and urgent topics for the news.
o Broadcast current and accurate information to consumers.
o Conduct interviews in broadcast live or pre-recorded and do research for the interview.
o Select and researches topics; contacts and interviews sources; maintains notes, recordings and files.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS:
o A graduate of Bachelor's degree in Communication or Journalism
o At least two years full-time professional experience in journalism
o Must come from Broadcasting companies or any related industries
ADDITIONAL SKILLS:
o Inquisitive, outgoing, and driven successful News Reporters are curious to find out as much as they can about given topics.
o Strong writing skills, and ability to convey information in a clear, concise and conversational manner
o Excellent live reporting skills and strong on-camera presentation skills
o Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends
o Ability to shoot and edit digital video
o Strong research skills, including the ability to navigate online search engines
o Must write well, possess strong research skills and speak articulately.
o Must have expertise in news-gathering, writing, editing and radio web production for short-form and long-form reports.
o Possess broad knowledge of local and regional issues and/or depth of knowledge in beat specialty.
