Construction Bookkeeper / Job Cost Accountant Remote | Full-Time
About the Role:
The Stride is seeking a detail-oriented and highly organized Construction Bookkeeper to oversee financial recordkeeping, job cost tracking, and accounting compliance across multiple projects. This is a remote position, and experience with construction bookkeeping in the USA is a strong plus. You'll work closely with our project managers, estimators, and leadership team to ensure every dollar is tracked, every invoice is accurate, and financial data is always up to date.
Your role will be critical in maintaining accurate project accounting, supporting smooth cash flow, and ensuring our financial records meet all regulatory requirements. By keeping our books clean and transparent, you'll help keep our projects on track and our clients and vendors satisfied.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage day-to-day bookkeeping for multiple construction projects.
- Accurately track job costs, expenses, and budgets in accounting software.
- Process accounts payable and receivable, ensuring timely payments and collections.
- Reconcile bank statements, credit card transactions, and vendor accounts.
- Prepare and send invoices to clients and follow up on outstanding balances.
- Maintain organized digital financial records and project cost reports.
- Coordinate with project managers to align job cost data with actual project progress.
- Assist with payroll processing and certified payroll reporting (if applicable).
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management.
- Support the leadership team in forecasting and financial planning.
Requirements:
- Proven experience as a Bookkeeper, Construction Accountant, or similar roleconstruction industry experience in the USA is a strong plus.
- Proficiency with accounting software (QuickBooks, Sage, or similar).
- Understanding of construction-specific bookkeeping processes, including job costing and progress billing.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently in a remote environment and meet deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills for working with internal teams, vendors, and clients.
- Familiarity with certified payroll and lien waivers is a plus.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and cloud-based file systems (SharePoint, Google Drive, etc.).
Success in This Role Looks Like:
- All project financial records are accurate, complete, and up to date.
- Job costs are tracked and reported in real time for each project.
- Invoices are sent promptly, and payments are collected without delays.
- Project managers have clear, accurate financial reports for decision-making.
- Payroll and vendor payments are processed without errors.
- Audits and reconciliations are smooth and error-free.
