I. JOB SUMMARY
Biomedical Technician is responsible for the maintenance and repair of all dialysis machines, water treatment equipment and re-use equipment following the policies and procedures as well as guidelines or protocols established by the institution. He ensures that systems are running properly and the equipment is working in accordance to strict standards and specifications. He also works collaboratively with other professional disciplines to ensure efficient and safe patient care delivery and achievement of desired outcomes.
II. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
· Consistently implements the Vision-Mission, Core Values and Quality Policy.
· Refers to policy and procedural manuals to verify and confirm rules and regulations during the establishment of work.
· Comes 30 minutes before the scheduled time;
· Oversees, maintains and repairs the following equipment at a facility including dialysis machines, re-use equipment and water treatment equipment, floor scales, infusion pumps and centrifuges.;
· Performs preventive maintenance and repair of dialysis machines;
· Performs maintenance checks on the machine after 1,000 hours of use every three months. They will repair or replace parts as necessary and make sure that the machine is working according to specifications.
· Responsible for maintaining the reuse equipment and machines. Reuse technician use these machines to clean and to perform pressure tests and blood volume tests on dialyzers. Each hemodialysis patient has his own dialyzer, which can be reused a specific number of times and replaced when it meets that number or when the reuse machine indicates it must be replaced. If there is a problem with the reuse machine, the Reuse technician will alert the Chief Biomed Technician, who will check and repair the machine.
· Responsible for the water treatment at the dialysis facility. Each facility has a Reverse Osmosis (RO) system that makes city (or tap) water ready for use in dialysis. The Chief Biomedical Technician helps monitor the entire process, ensuring that the RO water meets strict standards.
· Responsible for any necessary repairs or routine maintenance of the water system and, for many facilities, may also perform cleaning and disinfection procedures.
· Performs a new work as may be assigned by Head Nurse or Medical Director with the coordination with the Administration.
· Stock supplies and maintains storage area in an orderly manner.
· Participates in regular meetings as well as conferences, continuing education programs of the department. Exchange information with colleagues and make suggestions to better improve work and implementing specific procedures.
· Reads bulletins from the administration to keep abreast of changes in health care policies and standards as well as learn about emerging trends in the profession, new techniques and practices.
· Reads work instruction manuals as well as policies and procedures to gain information accordingly. Specialized knowledge is requisite to apply this medical information.
· Follows instruction on the flowcharts depicting protocols and makes decisions based on the processes described in charts.
· Ensures that unit stocks and supplies are available and enough for the operations of the department on a weekly basis.
· Checks the availability of the needed department in order to meet the needs for supplies and equipment for the department.
· May conduct daily round to gain insights on the needs of the staffs, patients and other personnel, as may be appropriate.
· Refers promptly to the Head Nurse or Medical Director and the administration in cases of difficult situations or any unusual occurrences encountered on a daily basis..
· Supervises staff personnel such as re-use technicians and utility personnel, as appropriate.
· Participates in clinical researches and studies whenever needed.
· Promotes personal professional development as well as staff development by promoting further professional growth in work-related knowledge, skills, and abilities.
· Performs new work as may be assigned by the Head Nurse or Medical Director in coordination with the Administration.
