OLE OVERVIEW

The General Accountant is responsible for overseeing the company's financial activities, ensuring accurate and timely preparation of financial statements, and maintaining full compliance with accounting standards and statutory requirements. This role plays a critical part in managing cost efficiency, monitoring financial health, and safeguarding the integrity of all accounting and reporting processes within a dynamic logistics and freight forwarding environment.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

1. General Accounting & Reporting

  • Prepare and maintain accurate general ledger (GL) entries, journal vouchers, and account reconciliations.
  • Generate monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with PH GAAP and IFRS standards.
  • Lead month-end and year-end closing activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Review financial data to identify discrepancies, variances, and process improvement opportunities.

2. Accounts Payable & Receivable

  • Review, validate, and process invoices, freight bills, agent charges, and supplier payments with complete supporting documentation.
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable related to freight forwarding and logistics transactions.
  • Coordinate with operations and billing teams for accurate revenue and expense recognition.

3. Cost & Revenue Accounting

  • Monitor freight revenues, transportation costs, warehousing, brokerage, and customs-related expenses.
  • Ensure accurate cost allocation per shipment, client, or business unit to support profitability tracking.
  • Validate billing statements, accruals, and intercompany transactions to maintain data integrity.

4. Taxation & Compliance

  • Prepare and file all BIR-related returns (VAT, EWT, Income Tax, etc.) and ensure compliance with statutory requirements.
  • Liaise with external auditors, government agencies, and other stakeholders during audits or reporting periods.
  • Maintain adherence to company accounting policies, internal controls, and regulatory standards.

5. Budgeting & Financial Analysis

  • Assist in preparing annual budgets and forecasts, analyzing variances against actual performance.
  • Provide financial insights and reports to support management in decision-making.
  • Recommend strategies to enhance cost control, cash flow, and overall financial efficiency.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accountancy, Finance, or related field.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is an advantage but not required.
  • Minimum of 3–5 years of solid accounting experience, preferably in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or transportation industries.
  • Strong knowledge of PH GAAP, BIR compliance, and logistics-related accounting processes.
  • Proficient in ERP systems (SAP, QuickBooks, or equivalent) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
  • High attention to detail, confidentiality, and ability to meet tight deadlines.
