Job Description
The Tax Accountant is responsible for preparing accurate and timely federal and state tax filings for individuals and business clients. This role requires strong attention to detail, a deep understanding of tax laws, and the ability to work collaboratively within a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate will demonstrate technical proficiency, clear communication skills, and a proactive approach to client service.
Duties and Responsibilities:
● Accurately prepare and file individual and business federal and state tax returns in compliance with applicable US laws and deadlines.
● Analyze financial statements, reports, and supporting documents to ensure accuracy, completeness, and consistency prior to tax preparation.
● Interpret and apply current IRS codes and state-specific tax laws to client cases, ensuring full compliance and minimizing the risk of audits or penalties.
● Identify available deductions, credits, and tax-saving strategies for clients while maintaining legal and ethical standards.
● Clearly explain complex tax concepts, filing outcomes, and planning strategies to clients in a professional and accessible manner.
● Remain up to date on changes in federal and state tax legislation, adapting to new procedures, technologies, and best practices as necessary.
● Work collaboratively with other tax professionals, accountants, and departments to ensure accurate filings and deliver high-quality client service.
Position Qualifications:
● Bachelor's degree in Accounting; CPA or active pursuit of CPA certification is highly preferred.
● 3-5 years' experience in an accounting firm with solid accounting and tax knowledge. Preferably in the role in a BPO setting serving US clients.
● Proficient in Drake Tax Software, with additional experience in other tax research tools considered an advantage.
● Experience preparing multi-state returns and managing complex client portfolios.
● Strong written and verbal communication skills with an ability to present financial information clearly to non-technical audiences.
● Flexibility to work extended hours during peak tax seasons to meet client and filing deadlines.
● Interest in growing within the firm and developing long-term client relationships.
● Proficient with Xero, Hubdoc, QuickBooks, or similar accounting software
● Strong customer service and communication skills
● Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities
