Key Responsibilities

  • Engineering Survey (pre-work): Perform, document, and sign the survey covering stability, sequencing, utilities isolation, required temporary supports/bracing, exclusion/drop zones, and adjacent-structure assessment (tower + terminal).
  • Continuous Inspections (during work): Monitor changing conditions; identify predictable hazards (collapse, falling objects, loosened materials, floor openings, wind effects on tower cab/shaft); stop work and direct corrective actions.
  • Sequencing & Controls: Validate demolition sequence, temporary shoring/bracing, and removal methods (mechanical, high-reach, hand, torching) to prevent unplanned collapse.
  • Utilities / LO/TO: Verify de-energization and lockout of power (incl. UPS/generator), telecom/RF/obstruction lighting, water/gas/steam; maintain written confirmations.
  • Lift & Rigging Interface: Coordinate with the Lift Planner, Qualified Rigger, Signal Person, and Certified Crane Operator for cab/antenna and heavy component picks; enforce exclusion zones and critical-lift controls.
  • Fall Protection: Work with the Fall Protection Qualified Person and on-site Competent Person to implement the Fall Protection & Rescue Plan (tower rescue).
  • Hazardous Materials / IH: Integrate controls for asbestos/lead/silica; enforce exposure monitoring, dust suppression, and respiratory protection as required.
  • Airfield & RF Coordination: Support airfield interface (haul routes, escorts, work windows) and ensure RF/transmitter de-energization before work near antennas/obstruction beacons.
  • Documentation: Maintain the signed engineering survey, daily DCP inspection logs, corrective actions, and updates to AHAs/Method Statements as conditions change.
  • Weather Readiness: Apply wind/sea-state cutoffs for cranes/lifts/scaffolds; perform restart inspections after severe weather.

  • Mandatory Qualifications (must have)
  • Meets OSHA "competent person" definition: demonstrated ability to identify existing/predictable demolition hazards and authority in writing to take prompt corrective action.
  • 5+ years progressive demolition experience including at least 2 projects with towers/high-rise or similarly slender structures and occupied/adjacent facilities (terminals, concourses, hospitals, etc.).
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical/high-reach demo, steel torch-cutting, concrete structural demo, temporary shoring/bracing, and exclusion zone management.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA 29 CFR 1926 Subpart T –.859), EM , and UFGS ; able to apply requirements in the field.
  • Proven interface with crane/rigging operations and critical-lift execution.
  • Utility isolation/LOTO verification experience (including UPS/generators and obstruction lighting/telecom/RF on aviation sites).
  • Strong documentation skills (surveys, daily logs, corrective actions) and ability to brief crews.
  • Authority letter from employer (or willingness to accept one as condition of hire) granting stop-work and field control.
