POSITION PURPOSE

The Systems Engineer is responsible for monitoring the day to day running of all Firstmac systems and maintenance of all networks along with helpdesk tasks.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Monitoring the computing environment to ensure that it is constantly available and performing at the highest level of speed to ensure zero business impact.
  • Monitor and test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement those fixes
  • Manage the Monitoring infrastructure and software to ensure that it is always up to date and monitoring the appropriate critical systems & services.
  • Investigate and provide recommendations on reducing the number of identified errors & warnings from the monitoring systems.
  • Perform regular patch maintenance of desktops & servers
  • Liaise with local vendors and other IT personnel for problem resolution
  • Any other duties as requested by the Line Manager

Required Experience / Qualifications

  • A Bachelor of Information Technology would be highly regarded or substantial relevant experience
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in System Engineering/ Administration role
  • Proficiency in core AWS services like EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, and VPC is essential.
  • Ability to manage Active Directory, including user provisioning and configuring security permissions.
  • Solid experience in administering, maintaining, and troubleshooting Windows-based systems and services.
  • Familiarity with scripting tools such as PowerShell, Bash, and Python for automation tasks.

Additional qualifications that are highly valued :

  • Experience or knowledge of Terraform.
  • Familiarity with Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) techniques and tools.
  • Experience or knowledge in using AWS services such as ECS, Load Balancer, Auto Scaling Groups, Cloudfront, and API gateway.
  • Experience working alongside development teams on application deployment and integration.
  • Experience in administering and maintaining Linux servers.
  • Knowledge or experience with Microsoft Azure.
