Civil Design Engineer

Responsibilities

• Become thoroughly familiar with codes, standards and legislative requirement and delivery of successful technical solutions to staff, managers, and clients ensuring that robust and efficient technical solutions can be supported.
• Assist the digital delivery team (drafting) in the preparation of documentation for project works ensuring the use of standard drafting procedures and pactices practices are followed.
• Undertake Civil designs such as road design, carpark design, sotrmwater and earthworks using computer-aided design equipment and software.
• Where required, lead the delivery of packages or work and supervise junior engineers and digital team ensuring designs and documentation is correct and delivered on time.
• Provide technical and administrative support to the manager and/or Project Leader by way of performing engineering calculations, reports, discipline tender, and construction documentation in accordance with Meinhardt standards, building codes, and legislative requirements.
• Provide timely and accurate expertise and advice on matters relating to engineering elements of relevant standards and acts and provide best value solutions to the team.
• Undertake review of engineering designs, and the correctness of certification documents lodged in connection with building applications while following established procedures and documentation standards.
• Undertake project phases, ensuring understanding of assignments including special requirements while ensuring projects are delivered on time, are of high quality, and within budget.
• Liaise with engineers, project teams (both in Australia and Philippines), authorities, and clients (where applicable) and assist in maintaining client relationships while ensuring that attendance at resource meetings, and regular feedback/project status updates to Project Leaders.
• Provide technical and internal client service excellence whilst ensuring client objectives and deadlines are met.
• Ensure projects are co-ordinated and delivered on time, meet Meinhardt's quality assurance requirements and within budget to the satisfaction of the manager and meets utilisation targets as specified by the sector leader.
• Assist the Project Leader on selected projects, ensuring that expectations are met, and the Project Leader is kept informed of the progress.
• Actively be involved in development of automation and improvements in standards and delivery practices.

Qualifications

• Formal tertiary qualifications in a relevant discipline or a closely related discipline is required as well as substantial industry experience.
• Membership (or eligibility to be Member) of a relevant national or international accreditation body.
• Registration (or eligibility to be registered) in relevant professional engineer register for the building/construction industry (if required).
• Technical knowledge and experience in the following areas:
• 12D or Civil 3D / Autocad;
• Script writing such as Python and Dynamo (optional);
• DRAINS (optional);
• MUSIC (optional);
• AutoTurn (optional); and
• Civil engineering design experience in designing site grading, roads, earthworks, stormwater drainage, water sensitive urban design.
• Proven industry experience in the various aspects of engineering design with emphasis on successful delivery of discipline projects, including identifying project risks, problem solving, communicating issues, and delivering solutions.
• Detailed knowledge of relevant authority and relevant design standards and practices.
• Knowledge and understanding of and ability to apply sustainable and cost-effective principles and solutions.
• Strong data analysis, interpretation, and data presentation skills.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, particularly in the preparation of technical reports.
• Excellent team communication skills (written and verbal) and high level interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage own time and priorities and to assist the rest of the team to meet project objectives in a deadline driven work environment.
• Understanding and application of principles and practices employed in a quality engineering consultancy practice.
• Knowledge and understanding of documentation and current issues related to own and other disciplines, including external sub-consultants.
