Responsibilities:

  • Develop, maintain, and enhance both backend and frontend components of Skillko's platform using Java, Spring Framework, Spring Security, Spring JPA, Hibernate, and AngularJS.
  • Design, build, and optimize scalable, secure, and efficient RESTful web services to support application features and integrations.
  • Collaborate with product managers, designers, and fellow developers to understand feature requirements, ensuring technical feasibility and delivering high-quality solutions.
  • Implement relational data models and manage database structures using PostgreSQL, ensuring data integrity and performance optimization.
  • Participate actively in Agile development processes, including sprint planning, code reviews, daily stand-ups, and retrospectives.
  • Maintain clean, well-structured, and maintainable code with a focus on clarity, performance, and user experience.
  • Contribute to technical architecture planning and documentation of system designs and feature specifications.
  • Manage source control using Git, ensuring proper versioning, branching, and merging practices.
  • Support application deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting in AWS cloud infrastructure environments.
  • Continuously identify opportunities to improve development processes, application performance, and the overall user experience.
  • Stay up to date with emerging technologies, tools, and best practices to propose new solutions and approaches where appropriate.

Required Skills & Demonstrable Experience

· Bachelors Degree in Computer Science or Engineering

· 4+ years commercial development experience

· 4+ recent years Java, Spring, Spring Security, Spring JPA & Hibernate

· 4+ recent years front end technologies - AngularJS 1.5, HTML5, CSS, Bootstrap

· 4+ recent years relational data modelling concepts and experience in PostgreSQL (or similar)

· 2+ recent years RESTful web services design patterns

· 2+ recent years experience in Git source control (or similar)

· 2+ years experience in agile SDLC processes

· Team orientated,; strong communication, collaboration, interpersonal, and organisational skills

· Positive attitude and highly accountable

Preferable Skills & Experience

· Experience in event driven application architecture (Queues)

· Experience in technical architecture design and feature documentation

· Experience deploying in AWS Cloud Infrastructure - Elastic Beanstalk, EC2, S3, SNS, SQS, SES, Lambda

Soft skills

What we really require are thinkers - people who will question the feature requirements to make sure they get a full understanding of them. - people that will think about the code they are writing, and structure it in a logical manner. - people that will think about the user experience, when creating a new feature

We do not require people that will write 100s of lines of code just for the sake of writing code.
