Job Summary:

We are seeking an experienced Senior Business Intelligence (BI) Specialist with deep expertise in IBM Cognos to join our analytics team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the design, development, deployment, and support of dashboards, reports, and data visualization solutions to empower data-driven decision-making across the organization. This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business needs and transform data into actionable insights using the full IBM Cognos suite.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and develop interactive dashboards, standard reports, and ad-hoc query solutions using IBM Cognos Analytics.
  • Lead the BI development lifecycle: from requirements gathering and data modeling to report development and deployment.
  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand analytical needs, translate them into technical specifications, and deliver effective BI solutions.
  • Ensure data accuracy, consistency, and performance optimization in all reporting solutions.
  • Create and maintain metadata models (Framework Manager) and manage data packages.
  • Work closely with ETL/data engineering teams to ensure proper data sourcing and integration.
  • Implement best practices for report design, usability, and governance.
  • Provide mentorship and technical leadership to junior BI team members.
  • Conduct unit testing, support UAT, and ensure quality delivery.
  • Monitor report usage and optimize reports for performance and efficiency.
  • Keep up to date with IBM Cognos updates and industry BI trends to propose new tools and techniques.

Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, or a related field.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience with IBM Cognos (v11 or higher) in a BI development role.
  • Expertise in Cognos Report Studio, Workspace Advanced, Dashboarding, Query Studio, and Framework Manager.
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing concepts, star/snowflake schemas, and data modeling.
  • Experience integrating Cognos with relational databases (e.g., SQL Server, Oracle, DB2).
  • Proficient in writing and optimizing SQL queries.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with the ability to work collaboratively.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with Cognos SDK, JavaScript, or custom visualizations is a plus.
  • Exposure to other BI tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is advantageous.
  • Knowledge of ETL tools and data pipeline workflows.
  • IBM Cognos certification (e.g., IBM Certified Developer - Cognos Analytics).
