Head, Data Engineer

We are looking for a Head, Data Engineer to lead the data engineering team and oversee the design, development, and management of data infrastructure and architecture. This role involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient collection, storage, and processing of data to support analytics and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

Technical Leadership & Data Architecture

• Own the data architecture roadmap, designing and delivering scalable, cloud-based data solutions that drive business value.
• Set the technical vision for data engineering, establishing best practices, toolchains, and modern SDLC processes.
• Establish and govern data quality, security, and compliance frameworks across the entire data ecosystem.
• Build and optimize high-performance data platforms to power advanced analytics, ML models, and critical business reporting.
• Drive data democratization through effective data cataloging, lineage, and metadata management to empower data consumers.
• Championing documentation and over-communication in a remote setup environment
  

Stakeholder Engagement & Cross-Team Collaboration

• Serve as the strategic data partner to the business, translating complex challenges into a scalable technical roadmap that aligns with executive goals.
• Drive technical alignment across departments, ensuring that solutions built by engineering, AI, and analytics teams are cohesive and impactful.
• Articulate the value, strategy, and technical vision of data initiatives to executive leadership, securing buy-in and driving investment.
• Mentor and cultivate a world-class data engineering team, fostering a culture of innovation, excellence, and continuous learning.

Data Strategy & Innovation

• Define the future of our data stack, continuously evaluating and improving the managed data platform solution with emerging technologies (e.g., open table formats, new processing engines) to maintain our competitive edge.
• Spearhead innovation in data processing for GenAI, leading R&D on efficient data pipelines for training, fine-tuning, and operating LLM-powered applications, including but not limited to existing RAG and agentic data products.
• Drive initiatives that create tangible business value, leveraging advanced analytics and IoT insights to directly optimize power generation and operational efficiency.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related quantitative field.
• 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with a minimum of 3 years in a technical leadership or management role.
• Expert-level proficiency in Python and SQL for complex data manipulation and application development.
• Deep, hands-on experience with the modern data stack, including:
  

**Data Transformation: dbt or a similar framework (e.g., SQLMesh).

**Big Data Processing: Apache Spark, Kafka, or equivalent frameworks.

**Orchestration: Airflow, Prefect, or Dagster.

**Open Table Formats: Strong preference for Delta Lake; experience with Iceberg or Hudi is  valuable.

• Proven experience designing and managing cloud-native data architectures (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
• Strong practical experience with Infrastructure as Code (IaC); hands-on expertise with Terraform on complex projects is a significant plus.
• Demonstrated understanding of LLM data pipelines (batch and real-time). Production experience deploying RAG, agentic systems, or other LLM-powered workflows is a key differentiator.
• Exceptional leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
