1. Cost Planning and Estimation
- Prepare detailed cost estimates during the design and planning stages.
- Provide advice on project budgets and financial feasibility.
- Forecast costs for materials, labor, and equipment.
2. Tendering and Procurement
- Prepare tender documents, bills of quantities (BOQ), and contracts.
- Evaluate contractors' and suppliers' bids to ensure value for money.
- Advise on procurement strategies and selection of contractors.
3. Contract Administration
- Draft, review, and manage construction contracts.
- Ensure compliance with contractual terms and legal requirements.
- Handle claims, variations, and contract disputes.
4. Cost Control and Monitoring
- Track project expenditures against the budget.
- Conduct cost-value reconciliations during construction.
- Monitor cash flow and financial risks.
5. Valuations and Payments
- Assess and certify contractors' interim payment applications.
- Prepare final accounts and settlement of financial obligations.
- Ensure payments align with work progress.
6. Risk and Value Management
- Identify potential financial and project risks.
- Provide solutions for cost efficiency without compromising quality.
- Conduct value engineering to optimize project resources.
7. Communication and Coordination
- Work closely with architects, engineers, contractors, and clients.
- Advise clients on financial and contractual matters.
- Provide regular cost reports and updates to stakeholders.
8. Post-Construction Roles
- Prepare final accounts and closeout documentation.
- Evaluate project performance against budget forecasts.
- Provide data for future cost benchmarking and planning.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field
- Professional certification (e.g., RICS, PQS, CIQS, or equivalent) is an advantage
- Proven experience as a Quantity Surveyor in the construction industry
- Strong knowledge of construction contracts, cost estimation, and procurement processes
- Proficiency in MS Office and quantity surveying software
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
- Strong attention to detail and ability to work under pressure
