The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for overseeing and coordinating the daily activities of the maintenance team to ensure the reliable operation of all production equipment, facilities, and utilities within the paper packaging plant. The primary goal is to maximize equipment uptime, minimize breakdowns, and manage all preventative and corrective maintenance tasks efficiently and safely.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Supervision and Leadership:

  • Directly supervise a team of maintenance technicians (electrical, mechanical, and/or PLC specialists).
  • Schedule, assign, and monitor daily maintenance work orders, ensuring timely and quality completion.
  • Conduct performance reviews, provide coaching, and facilitate training for maintenance personnel.
  • Maintenance Execution:
  • Manage the Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Predictive Maintenance (PdM) program, ensuring schedules are followed and tasks are executed effectively.
  • Coordinate and execute corrective maintenance and emergency repairs on packaging, printing, cutting, gluing, and converting equipment (e.g., corrugated box machines, folding carton gluers, flexographic printers).
  • Oversee the maintenance of facility infrastructure, including HVAC, plumbing, and electrical systems.
  • Safety and Compliance:
  • Enforce all plant safety rules and regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), confined space entry, and proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure all maintenance activities comply with local, state, and federal environmental and safety regulations.
  • Maintain a safe and organized maintenance shop and working environment.
  • Operational Efficiency:
  • Analyze equipment failure data and root causes to implement effective long-term solutions and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Work closely with Production management to schedule maintenance around production demands to minimize downtime.
  • Manage and control maintenance department costs, including labor and parts inventory.
  • Inventory and Procurement:
  • Oversee the management of the spare parts inventory using a Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS).
  • Initiate purchase requests for necessary tools, equipment, and repair parts.

Qualifications

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial) or a related technical field, OR equivalent relevant experience.
  • Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in a maintenance role within a manufacturing environment, preferably packaging, paper, or printing.
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in a supervisory or lead role.

Skills and Abilities

  • Strong technical knowledge of industrial electrical systems (480V), hydraulics, pneumatics, and mechanical powertrains.
  • Proficiency in troubleshooting and programming PLCs (e.g., Allen-Bradley, Siemens).
  • Experience using and managing a CMMS (e.g., SAP PM, Maximo, Fiix).
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, blueprints, and electrical schematics.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand, walk, lift, and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to noise, heat, moving machinery, and dust.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including weekends, holidays, and on-call rotation as needed.
