Job Purpose

The Supervisor, Coding is responsible for the supervision activities and operations of the overall functions of the Coding department and staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Organize, direct and monitor daily activities of Coding Associates as it relates to coding edits and denials
  • Distribute workload to team
  • Monitor and analyze productivity of the coding department employees, complete employee evaluations
  • Field questions from Coding Associates and Auditors as well as clients
  • Establish procedures, prepare and coordinate schedules, and expedite workflow
  • Prepare reports and correspondence as needed
  • Compile status and work-volume reports for management
  • Interview, train, motivate and reward Coding department staff
  • Manage disciplinary personnel issues and escalates accordingly
  • Assist with the implementation of policies and procedures necessary to comply with federal, state, and third-party regulations which govern billing and collection activities for physician services
  • Perform other related duties as assigned by management
  • Use, protect and disclose patients' protected health information (PHI) only in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) standards
  • Understand and comply with Information Security and HIPAA policies and procedures at all times
  • Limit viewing of PHI to the absolute minimum as necessary to perform assigned duties

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree (B. A.) or equivalent, two to four years related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • CPC or CCS Coding certification required from AHIMA or AAPC
  • 1-3 years' experience as a Supervisor
  • Possess thorough knowledge of multispecialty coding, including CPT, ICD-10 and HCPCs codes
  • Related training/experience (preferably within the past five years)
  • Knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid and Managed Care guidelines
  • Strong leadership, independent thinking and decision-making skills
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well at all levels of the organization
  • Strong problem solving and creative skills and the ability to exercise sound judgment and make decisions based on accurate and timely analyses
  • High level of integrity and dependability with a strong sense of urgency and results oriented
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Gracious and welcoming personality for customer service interaction

Working Conditions

  • Work Set-Up: Work From Home, must be willing to go onsite as needed
  • Work Schedule: US hours, night shift; must be flexible to accommodate business needs
  • Physical Demands:While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to move around the work area; Sit; perform manual tasks; operate tools and other office equipment such as computer, computer peripherals and telephones; extend arms; kneel; talk and hear.
