Medical Coding Specialist Role

This is a key position that involves assigning diagnosis and procedure codes to inpatient records. The Medical Coding Specialist will utilize coding classification systems, such as ICD-10-CM, ICD-10-PCS, or any other designated system, in accordance with coding rules and regulations.

Responsibilities
  • Assign accurate diagnosis and procedure codes for patient types including low acuity inpatient, OB/NB, acute psych, and 1-day stay; document and abstract necessary clinical information from the medical record.
  • Code modifiers accurately and respond to audits with changes to coding as needed based on findings; adhere to the Standards of Ethical Coding as set forth by AHIMA.
  • Abstract clinical information from records and ensure coding accuracy in accordance with regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
  • A minimum of one year of experience performing inpatient medical record coding is required.
  • Hold AHIMA or AAPC coding credentials, such as CPC, CIC, CCS.
