Rust Engineering Lead Role

Leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. Our platform, Ubuntu, is widely used in breakthrough initiatives such as public cloud, data science, AI, engineering innovation, and IoT.

We are hiring exceptional software engineers who prefer to work in Rust to drive adoption of this language into our offerings, starting with Ubuntu but also our own projects and open source platforms.

This role involves designing and implementing well-tested and well-documented software in Rust, advocating for Rust adoption in upstream projects, identifying projects and codebases that could be prioritised for Rust adoption, debugging and fixing issues encountered by users, participating in engineering processes through code and architectural reviews, collaborating with community and colleagues on technical specifications, seeking improvements to engineering practices, and contributing to product success through technical advocacy.

The ideal candidate will have extensive personal experience with Linux, a strong track record of academic achievement, an undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, relevant programming skills, excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, accountability, passion, thoughtfulness, self-motivation, result-orientedness, and ability to travel twice a year for company events.
