Project Accounting Officer Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Project Accounting Officer to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the development and maintenance of our accounting system, assisting in the drafting of financial and administrative procedures, and supporting national implementation agencies in implementing adequate financial systems and processes.

This role requires a strong understanding of financial control processes, protocols, and reporting systems. The ideal candidate will have experience in reviewing and verifying financial reports and documents, as well as assessing financial systems and internal controls.

The Project Accounting Officer will work closely with national implementation agencies to ensure timely submission and completeness of project reports. They will also provide comments and request clarifications as needed, prepare journal entries and record all projects' transactions in the accounting system, and analyze projects' accounts monthly.

To be successful in this role, you will need to have excellent knowledge of financial control processes and protocols, as well as financial reporting systems. You will also need to have strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Required Skills and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or equivalent
  • Professional qualification in Accounting (CPA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent) would be an added advantage
  • Minimum 5 years' experience, including at least 2 years as an auditor in a recognized audit firm or as an internal auditor preferably in a social development context
  • Experience in project accounting within a large multilateral donor-funded project
  • Extensive experience in review/verification of financial reports and documents
  • Experience in assessing financial systems and internal controls and formulating recommendations
