Job Overview

Mortgage loan underwriters play a crucial role in the mortgage lending process, ensuring that loans meet the required standards of accuracy, completeness, and creditworthiness before being delivered to investors.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Data Validation & Accuracy: Conduct thorough reviews and validations of all mortgage loan components, including borrower documentation, financial data, and property appraisals to guarantee their accuracy and completeness.
  • Verify that all data points and documents in the loan package align with Automated Underwriting System (AUS) outputs and are free from errors.
Credit Risk Management:
  • Identify potential credit risks and implement strategies to mitigate them, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Maintain detailed records of all underwriting decisions, creating a transparent audit trail for future reference.
Quality Assurance & Process Improvement:
  • Conduct quality checks on completed loan packages to uphold the highest standards of accuracy and consistency.
  • Stay updated on industry guidelines, investor requirements, and regulatory changes to ensure best practices are upheld.

Requirements:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in mortgage loan underwriting, covering conventional, FHA/VA, and non-QM loans for US consumers.
  • Familiarity with TRID guidelines, as well as agency and investor guidelines (Fannie/Freddie/HUD/VA).
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Excel or Google Sheets.
  • A detail-oriented mindset is essential, as accuracy is paramount in financial services.
  • A Bachelor's Degree in marketing, finance, economics, or a related field is required.
