About the role

We are seeking an experienced professional to fill the position of Lead - Optimization & Controls. This critical role involves delivering the financial accounting function for both operating entities at the regional level and investment entities at the group level.

The primary focus is on ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and maintaining Orica's rigorous financial controls and standards. You will be responsible for overseeing the financial accounting functions, supporting both regional and group entities, and contributing to the overall financial integrity of the organization.

This role requires you to maintain the highest standards of financial governance, utilizing your expertise in navigating complex financial landscapes and understanding regulatory requirements. Building trust internally and externally is paramount, demonstrating your innate business acumen, achievement orientation, and competitive spirit.

You will be responsible for managing General Ledger, ensuring accurate and timely recording of transactions, and conducting asset impairment testing. Additionally, you will participate in internal and external audits, embedding internal controls in processes.

Key Responsibilities

Management, Financial Reporting & Control:

  • Collaborate with Orica Global Business Services, addressing issues and finding solutions.
  • Prepare and consolidate business unit financial statements accurately and on time.
  • Manage General Ledger, ensure proper recording of transactions, and conduct asset impairment testing.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, embedding internal controls in processes.
  • Oversee bi-annual assurance process, including Balance Sheet review.
  • Support budgeting, forecasting, and finance projects.

Group Level Statutory Participation:

  • Complete quarterly/annual filings and shareholder reports promptly and accurately.
  • Prepare legal entity statutory accounts and Investor Relations reporting.
  • Manage information for Orica Tax Group for tax compliance.

Administration and Compliance:

  • Ensure compliance with Orica standards, Segregation of Duties, and financial policies.
  • Handle external auditing requirements.

Employee Development and Motivation:

  • Potentially manage a small team.
  • Coach and develop team leaders and members.
  • Communicate with senior stakeholders and encourage individual development ownership.
  • Mentor and cultivate a high-performing team while encouraging individual ownership of development plans.
Requirements

To succeed in this role, you must have a strong background in accounting or finance, preferably with a tertiary qualification and professional designation such as CA, CMA, or CPA. Experience in a similar role within a large, global business is essential, as well as people leadership experience with 8+ years post-graduate experience in accounting or finance.

Excellent knowledge of accounting standards is required, along with essential Excel proficiency and SAP S4 Hana experience if possible. Previous experience in an auditing firm is also preferred.

Flexibility to work across multiple timezones is necessary, and you should possess a sterling reputation for integrity, ethics, and solid character.
