Portfolio Management Specialist Job Description

The Portfolio Management Specialist is responsible for monitoring the current investment portfolios of a higher education institution, ensuring adherence to investment policies and financial risk management guidelines. This role involves executing short-term investments and serving as a liaison between the institution and external investment partners.


Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide regular performance reports on investment matters to support decision-making.
  • Track, record, analyze, and report the performance of the investment portfolios.
  • Compute and analyze the performance of benchmarks and individual portfolio returns generated by portfolio managers.
  • Identify potential risk areas and provide recommendations for addressing current and emerging concerns.
  • Recommend balancing liquidity requirements with investment goals.
  • Maintain data on benchmark performance and fund performance to provide an accurate and up-to-date picture of the institution's investment status.
  • Monitor domestic and foreign portfolio managers' adherence to portfolio guidelines and investment instructions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Familiarity with domestic and global bond markets, stock markets, interest rate movements, and currency fluctuations.
  • Understanding of Bloomberg and other financial software.
  • Extensive knowledge of statistical models and analysis applied to investments and financial modeling.
  • Ability to apply sound business and financial judgment in providing creative solutions.
  • Highly organized, structured, and logical approach.
  • Advanced proficiency in productivity tools like MS Office and statistical and financial software for financial modeling.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • High personal and professional integrity.

Education and Experience Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, finance, actuarial science, or a related quantitative field.
  • Master's degree in business administration, economics, finance, or math is an advantage.
  • Certified Public Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst certification is preferred.
  • At least 5 years' relevant experience in trust departments, portfolio management, fund administration, investment operations, financial modeling, and risk analytics.
