Accounts Receivable Specialist

This role is responsible for securing revenue generated by the sales organization, building strong customer relationships and fostering positive interaction with customers to drive and maintain ongoing relationships.

  • Contact business-to-business (B2B) customers via phone, email or fax to discuss outstanding invoices and billing issues, with a heavy focus on phone contact.
  • Manage a collections portfolio ranging from 300 to 600 accounts, primarily focused on Canadian and/or US territory accounts. The suggested activity is approximately 40 customer contacts per day, including email and telephone calls. Negotiate customer payment terms as needed based on assessment of account status to ensure maximum payment recovery.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with customer accounts and champion company receivable policy.
  • Manage past-due hold requests within service level agreements in order to mitigate risk to the company by assessing customer accounts and making decisions to release orders up to $50K for each request, and also making recommendations for any requests over $50K within the hierarchy.
  • Work with internal sales reps to proactively troubleshoot payment issues, such as invoicing, pricing, product/service issues.
  • Document and track collections activity and work from a monthly aging report.
  • Manage individual and department monthly receivable targets.
  • Reconcile accounts regularly.

Requirements:
  • A completed college diploma, preferably in Accounting or Finance, or related experience.
  • Two to three years of experience in corporate (B2B) collections, focusing on medium to enterprise-level customers.
  • Experience with the Accounts Receivable escalation process and taking initiative to resolve account issues, working with sales when necessary.
  • A good understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
  • Intermediate Microsoft Word and Excel skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Similar experience managing a portfolio of accounts.
  • Customer service oriented.
