About the Role

The primary objective of this position is to design, build, and maintain robust backend systems and services with a strong focus on Node.js and GraphQL. As a key member of the Digital Technology team, you will collaborate closely with internal stakeholders to develop scalable backend solutions that power our industry-leading digital platforms. Furthermore, you will mentor and support junior developers, contributing to the team's growth and success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and maintain scalable backend solutions using Node.js and GraphQL.
  • Design and integrate high-performance GraphQL APIs with frontend and external services.
  • Create robust backend architectures that are scalable, secure, and maintainable.
  • Work with relational and NoSQL databases to ensure optimal data storage and retrieval processes.
  • Write efficient, reusable, and well-documented code, leading and participating in code reviews to ensure high standards across the team.
  • Debug and resolve complex backend issues to maintain system reliability and performance.
  • Collaborate with product teams, frontend developers, and other stakeholders to deliver end-to-end solutions.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Demonstrate extensive experience in Node.js, including a deep understanding of asynchronous programming and event-driven architectures.
  • Show proven expertise in designing and implementing GraphQL APIs, encompassing schema design, query optimization, and security best practices.
  • Display strong experience with serverless technologies such as Firebase Functions.
  • Exhibit proficiency in TypeScript, writing clear, maintainable, and scalable code.
  • Show knowledge of REST APIs, with experience migrating or combining REST with GraphQL services.
  • Employ performance optimization techniques for backend systems.
  • Exhibit a strong understanding of security best practices, including authentication (e.g., OAuth, JWT) and authorization.
