Medical Documentation Specialist

The ideal candidate will work in collaboration with a spine surgeon to document patient encounters accurately and efficiently. This role is perfect for individuals experienced in orthopedic and spine surgical documentation who can also handle administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Accompany the spine surgeon remotely during patient visits and document essential information, including history of present illness, physical exam findings, imaging reviews, diagnoses, treatment plans, and follow-up instructions.
  • Transcribe orthopedic and spine-specific terminology and procedures accurately.
  • Update electronic medical records (EMR) with lab orders, prescriptions, and other necessary documents.
  • Draft referral letters, patient education materials, and pre-surgical documents as needed.

A strong knowledge of medical terminology related to orthopedics and spine is required. Experience with EMR platforms, preferably Athena Health, is also preferred. The ability to follow a provider's workflow in real-time with accuracy and discretion is crucial for this position.

Requirements:
  • At least 1 year of experience as a medical scribe for an orthopedic or spine surgery team.
  • Strong knowledge of medical terminology related to orthopedics and spine.
  • Familiarity with EMR platforms, preferably Athena Health.
  • Ability to follow a provider's workflow in real-time with accuracy and discretion.
Preferred Skills:
  • Experience with insurance verification and prior authorizations.
  • Comfortable with cost estimation and patient billing discussions.
  • Excellent written and spoken English skills for patient communication.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and attention to detail skills.
