Observability Engineer Opportunity

We are seeking a skilled Observability Engineer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have experience in designing and deploying observability solutions, integrating OpenTelemetry into software applications, and building and maintaining observability platforms.

This role is critical in steering the future direction of observability within our organization, offering observability as code, and setting standards for all teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the Observability and DevOps teams to design/build/deploy and maintain an observability solution aligned with our IT strategy/vision and strategic DevOps practices.

  • Work across application teams to integrate the observability solution into delivery pipelines and application codebases.

  • Communicate with governance streams to ensure adherence to process, quality, and architectural design.

  • Deliver against functional and non-functional requirements.

  • Take ownership/accountability for developing key features and driving them to completion.

  • Communicate progress effectively and raise impediments early to minimize impact on delivery.

  • Participate in incident management to resolve production defects based on criticality and severity.

  • Guide and support teams in implementing and adhering to Change Control principles.

  • Ensure inter-project dependencies and project risks are understood and managed.

  • Use technical expertise to collaborate with architecture to guide software solutions.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

  • Understanding of Observability pillars and knowledge of tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, OpenSearch, and CloudWatch.

  • Hands-on experience in deploying and managing AWS resources.

  • Demonstrated current experience of hands-on Full-Stack Software Engineering using Java or Microsoft C#, Typescript, JavaScript, Python, or PowerShell.

  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management Tools and technologies such as Source Code Management (git), DevOps platforms (Gitlab, TeamCity, Sonatype Nexus).

  • Experience monitoring applications and infrastructure in non-production and production systems.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with enterprise-level monitoring tools.

  • OpenTelemetry instrumentation and use of OTEL solutions.

  • APM experience (AppDynamics, DataDog, Dynatrace).

  • AWS OpenSearch/Elastic ingestion tooling (Crbl).

  • Grafana and Prometheus.

  • Cloud Technologies and concepts (AWS/Azure/GCP).

  • Dev(Sec)Ops automation and minimizing delivery times from Development to Production.

  • Containerization for deployability, testing, and loose coupling.

  • Agile exponent for speed, reduced risk, and maximum value.

  • Broking Trading business domain knowledge.

  • Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe) knowledge/application.
