Lead Accountant

This role is responsible for the overall financial management of client portfolios. Key duties include bookkeeping, reconciliation, and communication with HMRC as necessary. As a key member of the team, you will be expected to work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve shared goals.

Key responsibilities:

  • Financial Management
  1. Ownership of all bookkeeping tasks from client portfolio, ensuring timely and accurate completion every month.
  2. Review and reconcile client accounts, identifying and resolving discrepancies efficiently.
  3. Communicate with HMRC if necessary.
Client Communication & Support
  1. Serve as primary point of contact for daily bookkeeping queries for client portfolio, ensuring professional and timely responses.
  2. Escalate complex client concerns to Client Manager with well-documented context and recommended solutions.
Process Improvement & Documentation
  1. Identify inefficiencies in workflows and recommend practical improvements to enhance accuracy and efficiency to Client Manager.
  2. Develop and maintain detailed documentation of bookkeeping processes to support scalability and team alignment.
  3. Record and track all work in Practice Manager software, ensuring real-time visibility and reporting.
Reporting & Insight
  1. Provide regular updates to Client Manager on client account performance and operational progress.
  2. Highlight recurring challenges or risks and offer strategic solutions to mitigate them.
Beyond Standard Bookkeeping Tasks
  1. Act as first point of contact for bookkeeping team regarding day-to-day challenges and queries.
  2. Provide guidance and ensure consistency in using required software, helping team members resolve issues effectively.
  3. Collaborate with Client Manager to identify training needs and process gaps within the team.
  4. Support Client Manager by facilitating collaborative problem-solving environment within bookkeeping team.
