Database Architect Position Overview

This role involves leading the design and optimization of real-time databases and data systems to meet evolving client, product, and business needs. Key responsibilities include tuning, productionizing, and optimizing data systems and machine learning models to enhance their effectiveness and efficiency.

The successful candidate will take ownership of features end-to-end, from initial concept through deployment. They will drive substantial product features as the key developer alongside an architect, backend developer or analyst. Additionally, they will mentor and support junior engineers, leading by example in design reviews and pair programming.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Design and optimize real-time databases and data systems
  • Tune, productionize, and optimize data systems and machine learning models
  • Take ownership of features from initial concept through deployment
  • Mentor and support junior engineers

Some potential projects you may work on include building an AI-powered healthcare platform to help detect diseases earlier, launching a new fintech product from the ground up, or scaling a global SaaS commerce system with millions of products.

Success Metrics:
  • Contribute to meaningful project deliverables within two weeks
  • Communicate effectively with the team both asynchronously and in meetings

Within three months, you will understand the system architecture well and be able to work independently or in teams on medium-sized features. You will have shipped code in production, clean and tested, and communicated clearly, raising issues early and contributing to reviews.

After three months, you will take ownership of larger features and improvements from start to finish. You will help others by sharing knowledge, spotting problems early, and improving processes or tooling.
