Cloud Computing and Container Engineer

This role is part of a general selection process for software engineers focused on virtualisation and container technology. We seek exceptional candidates who have worked on open-source virt or container tech, preferably with experience in the kernel or very low-level system.

As a key member of our team, you will focus on designing and specifying new features, engaging with upstream communities, conducting security analysis and reviews, creating and monitoring performance benchmarks, collaborating with a distributed team, writing high-quality code, debugging issues, reviewing code produced by other engineers, and discussing ideas to find good solutions.

We look for individuals with an exceptional academic track record, undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, drive, and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations. You should have professional written and spoken English, experience with Linux (Debian or Ubuntu preferred), excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability.

Some examples of projects under way at Canonical include RustVMM, Rockcraft, LXD, MicroK8s, Charmed Kubernetes, and OpenStack. These teams hire system-level C/C++, Golang, Rust, and Python developers to work on security-critical, performance-critical, and mission-critical code, focused on software delivery, containers, security, sandboxing, application orchestration, and management.

• Design and specify new features, building consensus on approach
