Software Engineer (Senior+)

This is a key role for software engineers who want to lead design and architecture of impactful open source projects. After the first round of interviews we will determine which teams are the best fit for growth.

We have opportunities for senior engineers in every time zone.

Key Responsibilities
  • Leading design and architecture of an impactful open source project, with a focus on innovation and collaboration.
  • Coding in Golang, Rust, Python, C/C++ or Typescript / React, ensuring high-quality and performance.
  • Collaborating proactively with a globally distributed team, fostering motivation and direction.
  • Mentoring, developing and advising colleagues in their career progression, with a focus on technical leadership.
  • Displaying technical expertise in Canonical and our communities, driving excellence.
  • Debugging issues and producing high-quality code to fix them, with attention to detail.
  • Contributing to technical documentation, making it the best of its kind, with a focus on quality and readability.
Requirements
  • An exceptional academic track record from both high school and university, demonstrating a strong foundation.
  • Undergraduate degree in Computer Science or STEM, or a compelling narrative about your alternative path, showcasing adaptability.
  • Drive and a track record of going above-and-beyond expectations, with a focus on results.
  • Technical leadership as well as team motivation, direction and pace, with a focus on collaboration.
  • Deep experience with at least one of Go, Rust, Python or C, ensuring proficiency.
  • Conscientiousness and detail orientation, with a focus on performance and quality.
  • Excellent communication skills including professional written and spoken English, with a focus on clarity.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, curiosity, flexibility, and accountability, with a focus on teamwork.
Nice-to-have Skills
  • Container technologies such as LXD, Docker and Kubernetes, with a focus on containerization.
  • Highly concurrent, distributed systems, with a focus on scalability.
  • Performance engineering – from kernel to web – benchmarks, optimization, with a focus on performance.
  • Software security – fuzzing, tabletop threat models, analysis, audit, with a focus on security.
  • Build systems and toolchains, including for cross-compilation, with a focus on development.
  • Public clouds or OpenStack, with a focus on cloud computing.
  • Debian/Ubuntu packaging, with a focus on Linux distribution.
  • Systems programming or scalable web services, with a focus on backend development.
  • Deep quality and test engineering, with a focus on testing and quality assurance.
  • Web or Flutter front-end experience, with a focus on user interface.
  • REST and gRPC API experience, with a focus on API design.
  • SQL and NoSQL data store expertise, with a focus on database management.
