Job Summary

The Medical Coding Trainer is responsible for conducting medical coding education for new and existing medical coders. This role requires the ability to develop curriculum and training syllabus related to coding and billing training programs, including ICD 10 CM, CPT, E/M coding, Business of Medicine, Edit Resolution, and Revenue Cycle Management.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develops curriculum and training syllabus for coding and billing training programs.
  • Maintains knowledge of ICD 10 CM, ICD 10 PCS, CPT and HCPCS coding guidelines.
  • Updates existing training modules to ensure they remain current and effective.
  • Creates materials for inpatient medical coding exercises, assessments, and qualifying examinations.
  • Consolidates coder scores from quizzes, exams, and assessments and presents consolidated data during weekly meetings.
  • Maintains certifications of staff by providing continuing education units.
  • Provides training and review for onboarding coders and refresher training for tenured coders.
  • Communicates changes and updates in guidelines and rules to relevant stakeholders.
  • Collaborates with workgroups to resolve issues that impact internal and external customers.
  • Ensures compliance with all policies and procedures.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Certification in CPC or CCS is highly desirable.
  • Proficiency in revenue cycle management, E/M, and procedure coding.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.
