Canonical is hiring a Software Systems Developer for Java Runtimes, tooling, and ecosystem.

This role involves collaborating proactively with a distributed team to select, integrate, and package best-of-breed tooling with our platform to improve developer and operator experience with Java Runtimes, frameworks, and applications.

The successful applicant will be passionate about the future of Java and the Virtual Machine, and aware of the dynamics of the open-source ecosystem.

They will work closely with the Ubuntu Foundations team, impacting every aspect of the Ubuntu ecosystem, from Desktop to Server, Core, containers, and cloud images.

  • Collaborate proactively with a distributed team
  • Select, integrate, and package best-of-breed tooling with our platform to improve developer and operator experience with Java Runtimes, frameworks, and applications.
  • Develop high-quality code to create new features
  • Debug issues and produce high-quality code to fix them
  • Review code produced by other engineers
  • Discuss ideas and collaborate on finding good solutions
Requirements:

You have relevant experience with Java Runtimes and its ecosystem, ideally in cloud-native software and Linux.

Experience in packaging software for Debian and Ubuntu is required.

Long-time Linux user with an exceptional academic track record from both high school and university.

Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about your alternative chosen path.
