Job Description:

The Engineering Manager will be responsible for leading a team of engineers who deliver the essential components of Ubuntu, including system startup, compilers, language runtimes, and toolchains. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of Linux and Ubuntu, as well as exceptional leadership skills.

Key responsibilities include planning, estimation, and execution, as well as working with product management to define the vision and strategy for Ubuntu. The successful candidate will also collaborate with cross-functional leadership teams and drive the advancement and adoption of the latest software development practices.

In this pivotal role, you'll lead and inspire your team to take Ubuntu to new heights. You'll be expected to demonstrate sound engineering principles through active and hands-on leadership, grow a healthy, collaborative engineering culture in line with company values, and work from home while meeting in person for company sprints.

Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Extensive experience with Linux distributions and packaging technologies
  • Demonstrated experience managing or leading a team of software engineers
  • High quality software engineering knowledge in one or more of: Linux system architecture, boot process, Java/GCC/Python/Rust/Go toolchains, ARM and/or RISC-V
