Accountant Job Description

The primary role of an Accountant is to perform a variety of accounting-related functions, including tax return preparation, financial statement analysis, budgeting, and forecasting. This involves reviewing financial statements, preparing tax returns, and coordinating the collection of required documents and information.

Responsibilities:

  • Prepare tax returns for individuals and businesses, including personal and business tax returns, and ensure accuracy and completeness of all tax returns.
  • Conduct independent research of all necessary laws prior to submitting a return to the reviewer.
  • Prepare tax projections and planning tasks for clients, including determining tax liability, salary requirements, and payroll liabilities.
  • Handle correspondences with government agencies and teleconferences, prepare payment plan paperwork, and handle external bookkeeping and reconciliations.
  • Provide internal and external QuickBooks support for clients, collect tax return information for tax preparer, and update bookkeeping and payroll lists to show that clients' work is completed in a timely manner.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or finance-related field.
  • Proficient in tax and accounting software/tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, QuickBooks, CCH Access/ProFX Tax, Intelliconnect Tax Research, Intelliforms, Tax Tools, CFS Payroll, Practice Management Time Entry, Accounting Research, PFX Tax Planning, Proseries Tax Planner, CCH Engagement External Bookkeeper.
  • Licensed as a certified public accountant is a plus.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Aptitude in data management, analytics, and reporting preparation.
  • Ability to function in an autonomous environment—independent worker, self-directed.

This role requires strong analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as excellent organizational and communication skills. The successful candidate will have a solid understanding of accounting principles and practices, as well as proficiency in relevant software tools. They must also be able to work independently and as part of a team, with a high level of attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
