Senior Data Solutions Developer

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in designing and implementing our modern data architecture, incorporating best practices in data governance, security, and scalability.

• Data Platform & Architecture Development

In this position, you will drive the evolution of a data fabric or similar approach to reduce heavy-lift ETL and ensure rapid, flexible data access across the organization. You will collaborate with leadership and product teams to prioritize high-ROI data initiatives and shape long-term data strategy. Additionally, you will work with cross-functional teams like Engineering, Analytics, DevOps and later AI/ML to align data infrastructure with business goals and requirements.

• Pipeline & Integration

You will build and maintain highly scalable data pipelines to ingest, process, and transform data from diverse sources (databases, APIs, external files, streaming platforms). Furthermore, you will support the creation of new and valuable data and insights from existing siloed data sources. Use appropriate cloud (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) and big data technologies to ensure minimal downtime, data consistency, and efficient throughput. Establish robust CI/CD and DevOps practices to automate and manage data pipelines, ensuring quick deployments and updates.

• Data Modelling & Governance

You will implement data modelling standards (e.g., dimensional modelling, schema design) that align with the needs of AI, analytics, and Business Intelligence use cases. Work with General Council to define data governance (quality, metadata management, access controls, compliance), working closely with stakeholders to ensure data reliability. Evaluate tools and processes to manage data quality at scale (catalogues, lineage, data quality checks, etc.).

• Technical Leadership & Team Enablement

Serve as the go-to data engineering expert, collaborating closely with Leadership, Engineering and Product teams to understand data requirements and optimize performance. Drive technical roadmaps and mentor junior team members or external consultants, ensuring alignment on best practices and architecture guidelines. Research and evaluate emerging data technologies, including data fabric, data mesh, streaming, and real-time analytics, to keep the data platform on the competitive edge.

• Scalability & Performance

Take ownership and accountability of end-to-end performance of data solutions, including query optimization, distributed processing, and caching strategies. Proactively identify bottlenecks and drive solutions that meet current and future data needs as we grow, onboard new data sources and identify new use cases.

Requirements:

• Educational Background: BS/MS in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent work experience).
• Experience: 5-7+ years in data engineering roles, preferably in cloud-based environments; proven track record of delivering robust data pipelines.
• Mindset: Proven ability to work in an agile way, with a strong focus on prototyping to prove feasibility and rapid delivery to secure ROI on priority use cases.
• Technical Expertise:
  • Proficiency in Python (or similar), SQL, and big data frameworks (e.g., Spark, Hadoop).
  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) for data storage, processing, and orchestration.
  • Familiarity with data infrastructure such as data warehouses (Snowflake, Redshift, BigQuery), data lakes (S3, ADLS), and lakehouse architectures.
• Data Architecture Exposure: Ability to design and optimize end-to-end data platforms, with knowledge of data modelling (dimensional, transactional, NoSQL) and data governance frameworks.
• Leadership & Communication:
  • Experience guiding teams on data best practices and architectural decisions.
  • An evident desire to communicate clearly with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, translating business requirements into scalable data solutions.
